If desktop notification systems aren’t enough to get your attention, a device currently running on Kickstarter will offer an LED alert for your Twitter or Facebook updates. The blink(1) is a USB-based LED that promises to “give you glanceable notice of anything on your computer or the Internet” – including incoming emails, social network status updates, Twitter keyword appearances, and even changes in the weather.
This unique status light device uses three factors (color, brightness, and pattern) to provide a variety of alerts, as well as multiple alerts at the same time with some careful planning. Designed to work on anything with a USB port, including Windows, Macintosh, and Linux systems, the blink(1) should be compatible with Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, IFTTT.com, Boxcar.io, and other services at launch.
The blink(1) USB RGB LED has already exceeded its original Kickstarter goal, but you can still pre-order your own light-up alert system for a $30 pledge. The device is estimated to turn multitasking into a USB-based light show sometime in October.
