Wednesday Wonder: 3D Printed Meat

Weird, wonderful, or simply misunderstood?  Today’s Wednesday Wonder takes us to the unpredictable and sometimes disturbing world of the future.  If you’re not ready for replicator-friendly synthetic food, you’d better start preparing.

3D printing has moved into a lot of strange fields – desserts and medical-grade tissue among them.  But it may be getting even stranger soon.  Like 3D printed meat strange.

Modern Meadow, the startup behind the idea, suggests 3D bio-printing is a “more environmentally friendly approach to dinner.”  And while traditional livestock practices may be less than ideal, 3D printed meat sounds less than appetizing to us.  Maybe if we pretend we’re living in a future where all food is synthetic…

Perhaps fortunately, you don’t have to worry about 3D-printed dinners in the very near future.  Modern Meadow’s current goal is to create a slab of meat that’s one inch long.
