There have been rumors of the return of the Start button to Windows 8.1. Many old-school Windows users miss the Start button with its convenient menu that would allow the user to search their whole system. This rumor had many Windows users leaping for joy! We hate to burst any bubbles – but the Start button that many know and love appears to be gone forever. The Start button that will be included in the Windows 8.1 update - won’t be the same as the old version.
Various sources are saying that the only similarity between the new start button and the old – will be the placement. It will be in the same location on the task bar, and will most likely be turned on by default. However- it’s said that pressing the Start button will only bring up a full-screen view of “All Apps,” similar to the current Windows 8 view that users can get to when they bring up the app bar and select “All Apps.” You will be able to rearrange the icons on this screen. But let’s face it – that’s not the same thing as the original start menu. Not even close.
Moral of the story folks – don’t get your hopes up if you hear more about the new Windows update including a Start button. As the saying goes, “they just don’t make things the way they used to.” To Windows defense, they don’t want to completely abandon their new direction yet. With all the news surrounding the increased sales of mobile devices in contrast to PCs - it only makes sense for them to continue developing an OS that caters to touch screen mobile devices.
