Sure, it may not be home, but every once in a while it can be nice to actually stay in a hotel. You don’t have to worry about making the bed, food can magically appear right at your door, and you can even instantly get a toothbrush without having to rush out to the closest convenient store. But, as nice as it is, there are always a few upgrades that can be made to improve the experience.
That’s why Starwood hotels are testing out new features that’s going to make staying in a hotel room feel like staying in a hotel room from the future! The hotel already allows you to enter your room with just your Apple watch or phone, but now they’re testing out new high-tech mirrors and even a robot butler!
So, what new and exciting features are they currently testing out? Well, for starters, they’re giving the TV viewing experience an upgrade at Four Points by Sheraton. Instead of one tv, guests will now have two which means they can stream Netflix on one screen while doing work on the other. Plus, there are even headphones next to the bed which can be paired with one of the two tvs. Basically, that equals happy marriages since you both don’t have to agree on the same show!
As we mentioned above, there’s also new high-tech mirrors that could be potentially gracing the rooms at the various hotels. What’s so special about the mirror? It’s actually a touch mirror that can give your immediate access to weather, news, or sports. Plus, you can even pair it with your phone so you can see your Twitter feed or get other notification right on the mirror. Sure, maybe it seems like a little much, considering we can get all that on our actual phones, but there is something neat about the idea of reading our Twitter feed while we do our hair and makeup in the morning.
Finally, one of the coolest test features is a robot butler! The robot butler is actually capable of coming straight to your room to deliver those things you might have left behind. Think toothbrush, toothpaste, or a sewing kit for that hole you just discovered in your pants. Apparently, the hotel is even looking at voice-command software so you can tell Siri to tell your butler to bring you whatever it is you need!
But, you say, what if we really want to play with high-tech gadgets but don’t want to be stuck in our rooms? No problem there! The hotel is even looking into the idea of putting Oculus Rift headsets in the lobbies as well as in the gym, to make that run on the treadmill just a little more exciting.
Now, don’t start booking your stay quite yet. All these ideas are merely ideas or concepts strictly in a testing phase at the moment. However, a good number of these features should make their debut by the end of the year.
